ONE OF THE WORST CALLS IN CFB HISTORY:
Throwback when Cooper DeJean had an insane punt return touchdown but somehow the refs called it back for a fugazi fair-catch call.
😳😳😳
One of the best returns ever — that should’ve counted.
The 5 building blocks of elite Linebacker play:
-Reads
-Tackling
-Pass Drops
-Movement Skills
-Block Destruction
Master the fundamentals. Make more plays.
Linebackers:
Speed kills.
But there are many ways to PLAY faster.
Watch more film, improve your reads, master your angles.
Play smart so you can play fast.
Elite Linebackers thrive on versatility.
-Stuffing the run
-Covering the pass
-Blitzing the Quarterback
It’s the most dynamic position in all of sports.
Linebackers:
Stopping the run isn’t just about GAPS.
It’s also about leverage, teamwork, and understanding your defensive system.
Swarm the football and they’ll have nowhere to run.
Linebackers are right in the middle of everything.
They're the bridge between the Defensive Line and the Secondary.
This means they can play a big part in your defensive communication.
Here are some tips for helping your Linebackers be more vocal on the field.
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
Build the Vocabulary
Each defensive unit has its own language.
Buzzwords, unique naming systems, checks.
These need to be developed and drilled.
Once everyone understand the language, it’s easier to communicate.
Train the Eyes
It’s hard to communicate if you don’t know where to look.
I remind our Linebackers to “say what you see”.
But that’s not helpful unless they’re seeing the right things.
Get the eyes right first.
Instill Confidence
A confident Linebacker is often a loud Linebacker.
Empower them to speak.
Coach them up on what to say and when.
They’ll be barking out calls in no time.
Final Thought
I saved this for last but it might be the most important point:
Not every Linebacker needs to be vocal.
I’ve coached some great Linebackers who didn’t say much.
They just made plays.
It’s helpful to have at least one member of the unit be comfortable enough to speak up.
If you have that, then let them do the talking.
Let the rest just play.
I know a lot of my followers love sports. You played sports, your kids play sports, and you watch a lot of sports.
And now it’s time for you to give back to the sport that gave you so much.

Linebackers do it all.
Fit runs, shed blocks, make tackles, cover the pass, blitz, strip the ball, run, hit, play specials, everything.
Greatest position in all of sports.
