Fun to see USA wear jerseys close in appearance to #Isles ’78-’95 road jerseys. Often USA has dressed like NYR instead, e.g. 1960 Olympic gold medal team. #USAvsCAN
Remembering les frères Potvin, as seen in Ottawa. They were more than what they seemed on the surface. Fighters. Winners. Time will tell - but someday we should see this kind of pairing again.
@ehornick@TheAthleticNHL@JoshYohe_PGH Yes. NYI AGM Gerry Ehman’s very strong focus on drafting from the WHL (and especially guys who played a lot in Saskatoon, where he was based) also supports the theory that we might well have picked Scissons at 5 or 6.
#Isles mood. As a parent, I try to convey it’s not right to complain about officiating, but … jeez. It’s been Referee Pittman bad.

Before the Fisherman arrr-ives again (sigh) let’s put some more respect on what it tried to replace. This wasn’t the first, and the crest was a tad off, but it was a great look. The CLASSIC Canada Cycle & Motor HOME #Isles jersey from ’87-95. (This one, a 52, and a beaut.)
While tonite’s W was great fun, you also saw tonite the strong fabric of this team. Real bonds between #Isles who have grown together - ties that’ll last a lifetime. That team culture starts from the top, with smart, loyal mgmt. Maloney & Mad Mike didn’t develop teams like this.
A collection of saves and goals from last night’s game between the Islanders and the surprising Blackhawks. Tony Esposito vs Roland Melanson. Tony O got the win (4-2) and will start against the Oilers next game!
@OilersDayByDay Indeed recorded circa 1982 at the #Isles practice rink at Cantiague Park on Long Island. NYI practiced there from 1979 to 1992, and the rink still stands today. I posted this video to YouTube ten years ago … forgot about it until today. Thanks for the trip down memory road.
While I’m not happy to see the #Isles Fisherman logo back, it’s interesting to see it’s been revised: no capital “I” at the start or “S” at the end. That’s an improvement, as the middle letters spelled out “slander.”(Admittedly, that’s what I thought the Fisherman was anyway.😉)
No need to guess, I’ve sat in those seats. It’s Denver (McNichols Arena), fall 1977, and SI is in town to do a cover story featuring Bryan Trottier, plus super rookie Mike Bossy. #Isles sporting only orange stripes on their road jerseys, which was a one-season-only experiment.
