This is what drives people up the wall with Labour:
a) Every Minister, from Starmer down, mouths the platitude "our priority must be Epstein's victims".
b) Mandelson is forced to resign because of his friendship with Epstein
c) Darren Jones sends Mandelson a sycophantic, fawning message AFTER his relationship with Epstein is fully exposed.
d) Darren Jones literally goes on national television and lies about sending that message.
e) Darren Jones lies are finally exposed themselves.
f) Jones "allies" then start roaming around, briefing the media HE is the victim.
g) Jones carries on in post as if nothing has happened
The Labour government is now pretty much officially in a condition of civil war.
Andy Burnham has just said he is preparing a leadership campaign.
And No.10, speaking for Keir Starmer, immediately responded by saying “The country expects us to focus on governing and to deliver change for hardworking people, not get distracted by Westminster debates. The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and it has not been triggered. The Prime Minister will not walk away from the mandate he was given just two years ago to build a stronger, fairer Britain.”
In other words, Starmer is saying he will fight any challenger.
Messy.
It's quite difficult to say two-tier justice doesn't exist when @ShabanaMahmood last year had to intervene to prevent the Sentencing Council publishing new guidelines that said ethnic minorities and trans convicts should receive more lenient sentences than everyone else.
This is not the first time Starmer has shamelessly used a young person's murder to fend off legitimate Qs from opponents. Recall his opportunism in the Chamber, when he told off Sunak for an accurate observation about Labour's muddled position on gender, because Brianna Ghey's mother was watching
🚨1/ We already have loads of photos of Sturgeon with Murrell swag, but I’ve found a new kind of gaiety: tweets in which Sturgeon photographs and delights in expensive new household purchases, paid for with SNP money.🧵
Unfortunately, this analysis doesn't hold up to scrutiny. The UK retained its NGDP lead over the wider set of benchmark economies in the decade since Brexit. Where it lost ground was on RGDP per head - where inflation (as a result of a disastrous domestic energy policy, and incomes policies - egged on by left-wing economists) has created the clearest damage. Brexit added further inflationary friction, but about half as relevant as these other policy failures
"It's a sort of weird conversation!”
@BethRigby pushes Andy Burnham on his ambitions to be the next leader of the Labour Party as he dodges questions on whether he would serve in Keir Starmer’s cabinet

🚨 BREAKING: The CPS has authorised new charges against Vickrum Digwa and his brother and father for Henry Nowak's murder
They will appear at Southampton Court this afternoon
Vickrum Digwa:
- Six counts of possess an offensive weapon in private place on 4 December 2025
Moga Singh (father):
- Six counts of possess an offensive weapon in private place on 4 December 2025
Gurpreet Digwa (brother):
- Six counts of possess an offensive weapon in private place on 4 December 2025
- Possess an offensive weapon in a public place on 4 December 2025
- Possess a prohibited weapon on 4 December 2025
- Two counts of possess knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place on 4 December 2025
Yet Burnham has said nothing about this appalling tragedy. He’s posted his running times & did some vague showboating on ‘Westminster’ politics. I agree Starmer is weak but if you think Burnham will be any better on this issue you’re heading for serious disappointment.
The entire Digwa family are utterly reprehensible. That "friends and relatives" had the audacity to chunter away during the sentencing remarks and get into a spat with Nowak’s family, let alone show their face in the first place, is truly contemptible.
I've seen the body worn. I never judge incidents unless I was there or have heard people who were.
But I'm going to judge this.
This is a serious breach of at least three established operational protocols. Basic day one training school stuff.
It's sloppiness, pure and simple.
Bodycam footage of Henry Nowak, as he’s slowly dying, is most grotesquely surreal thing I’ve ever watched. The officer managing the situation shouldn’t be allowed to walk a dog, let alone be a police officer. He should be dismissed.
Can’t imagine being a parent & seeing that.
“What did Starmer think? So conspicuous is the absence of his opinions, expectations and directions from these conversations that it is all too easy to forget he was prime minister at all.”
Footage available is astonishing.
What were they thinking handcuffing him.
I'm afraid the sentencing remarks today were far too forgiving of the officers.
It's almost too excrutiating to watch. But watch we must & we must not look away. We must hear those cruel last words Henry heard. And recognise: this is what happens when police/state agencies become completely discombobulated by mandated EDI identitarian victim politics on race
