@Weeezin I feel like those are more outliers though. Despite "Anora" ultimately winning Best Picture, it didn't do super well at the box office (at least in terms of raw numbers) because of all the graphic sexuality.

@Weeezin "Obsession's" sex scene actually kind of interesting... because it treats it like an actual jump scare. And in context the sex scene is framed more like a rape scene because that is essentially what it is. But yeah... definitely not meant to be appealing in "Obsession."

@Weeezin It's funny how I've seen people complain about how there's too much sex & nudity today... but the sex in films today is nothing compared to the sex in the 70s & 80s. Saying they "went nuts" doesn't even properly sell it. They even had a whole genre (sexploitation) devoted to it.

Here's something interesting. When "I Want Your Sex," first premiered at Sundance... tickets were a hot commodity and lots of high-profile critics couldn't get tickets because it sold out.

When released to the public? Landed with a thud, & theaters were almost completely empty.

@Weeezin I do think that a decrease in romance in movies in general is part of the reason for the decline. But it's probably more complicated than that. Probably the most common is that porn you consume privately is so pervasive that most don't want to see it publicly on the big screen.

"The Odyssey" crossing a billion dollars this weekend will mean that 2026 has given us 5 billion dollar films. This is the most since the pandemic, and tied for the record for second place (both 2015 and 2018) had five billion dollar films.

@_CritterMan I think it's just the natural human desire to think that someone (as in somebody else) needs to fix all the problems. People naturally look at government to lead, and so they just want them to lower prices without them having to change their habits.

But yes... icons are a big problem. That's another reason why we know Catholicism is false.

@_CritterMan I know people don't want to hear this... but sometimes the problem really is yourself, and if you'd take some responsibility a lot of your problems would either disappear or at the very least lessen.
