@Komaniecki_R It also detracts from the actual true instances of theft that happen rarely (I.e. the material is almost/is the exact same, no transformation or new interpretation of the content, just lazily taking someone else’s material as it is)
I read through this and spent a good few minutes processing it—I wanted to find a meaningful, thoughtful response to the ideas presented here and to their manner of presentation. And I did find my response:
This is a dumb fucking article.
@LanierSammons As a student composer myself, I like to remember that for every musician like this, there’s probably ten musicians out there who would gladly embrace the opportunity to be a part of a given musical experiment/risk/etc.!
I can’t stop listening to this lovely little clip from my work “The Paper Man” played by the students of J.J. Pearce HS! I’m so grateful to them for including this piece in their program!
When you forget you are a listening to high school musicians! Wow! Indy, watch out this group is going to blow you away! I am so so proud! @JJPearceHS@TheCBreedlove@lhbenton@mjasso12
For what it's worth, this type of comparison is no less absurd than if you put a classical piece into a single track of a DAW and compared it to a DAW file for a finished pop song complete with mix, master, filters, sidechains, plugins, automations, etc.
These are just babies, y’all! Playin’ their tails OFF! 🙌🏾🎵 So very excited for them and their Indy debut! Also, the clip below is a piece written by my former student, Harrison Collins! One of my favorite tunes of his. @jstandsforjoe
Extremely excited to share with you all a relatively new piece!
"if we must dance..." is NOW AVAILABLE through my website!
Grade 3— 3'57"
This piece was commissioned by Dr. Charles Weise and the South View Middle School Bands. @edinaschools@SVBandsEdina
"if we must dance... musically describes two people who absolutely resent each other and are forced to dance. As the piece evolves, so does their relationship. From hating each others guts to being connected through dance".
