America’s World Cup hero of last night, Folarin Balogun, is only allowed to play for the US national team because his heavily pregnant Nigerian mother was refused permission by US airlines to fly to the UK, and so the first two months of his life were - by accident - in Brooklyn. It is pretty much inconceivable that if Trump’s immigration enforcement had been in place that Balogun would have been permitted to be born in America. Draw your own conclusions
The introduction of cooling breaks, apart from being a capitalist trick to cram more ads down our eyeballs, fundamentally alters the game by killing any positive momentum. An artificial lifeline that bails out struggling teams & restores balance. It'll become clear during this WC
A reminder that Flo Balogun would not be on the US Men's National Team if Trump's birthright citizenship order was in place when he was born in NY. The first US man to score more than one goal in a World Cup match since the very first World Cup in 1930.
What I miss most about ESPN's coverage of the World Cup was how respectful and duteous they were toward it being the World Cup. Fox Sports is over-the-top American centric and spends nowhere near enough time covering the other matches.
Alexi Lalas for me just shows the problems of soccer in America.
America is a diverse country with very talented and educated people on the game
But Fox continues to give us this average player from 30yrs ago cause he appeals to Middle America Trump supporters
