I signed to UCLA my junior year of high school and was told I was going to start Day 1.
Opening Day at UCLA?
I was sitting the bench. 😭
I had 2 choices:
1. Complain, pout, and blame the coaches
OR
2. Find the holes on the team and become valuable.
So for 3 weeks, I sat the bench.
I showed up early.
Stayed late.
Cheered for my teammates.
Dragged the field every 3rd inning.
Meanwhile, I studied the team.
The middle infielders were doing well.
Third base wasn’t.
So I told the coaches:
“I can play third.”
Then I noticed something else:
Offensively, we were either hitting home runs or getting out.
I saw the gap.
If I could become a tough out, get on base, and bring energy to the team…
I could create value.
Then we played Miami.
The starting third baseman was hitting .115.
They gave me a shot.
I went 2 for 3 with a walk.
Played solid defense.
Brought energy.
I never sat the bench again.
Eventually, I became team captain…
and we were ranked #1 in the country.
One thing baseball taught me:
Opportunities don’t always go to the most talented player.
Sometimes they go to the player who becomes the most valuable.

I am not ashamed of my journey. My life will be a testimony.
But if I could offer a word of advice to any freshman, sophomore or junior athlete in high school it would be to just listen bro. All them adults in your life not just talking to talk. They been here longer. They done bumped they head already. They trying to save you from doing the same thing.
Do not make the mistake of thinking your talent alone is enough. It’s not. Talent open doors. Character and grades keep you there. And if you already messed up, if your GPA not where it should be, if your name been in rooms for the wrong reasons… don’t quit. Keep digging. You can climb out the hole the same way you dug it.
Class of 29, 28 and 27 hear me.
Take your grades serious. Choose who you hang around wisely. Protect your name. Word spreads fast if you a crash out. Respect authority. Nobody riding for you like your parents and coaches. Work hard when nobody clapping.
Do not wait until senior year to lock in. That GPA do not lie.
I’m still figuring it out myself. I’m struggling but I know God got me.
Be intentional. Lock in early. Pray. Show up ready to work.
I’m learning the hard way that my future is being built in the small decisions I make today.
Start now.
College baseball is faster.
Not because the players are superheroes.
Because the standard is higher.
Every Top 25 practice.
Every SEC infield.
Every ACC bullpen.
Every Big 12 BP round.
It moves.
No wandering.
No casual flips.
No standing around.
Every rep has intent.
Every throw has purpose.
Every swing has a plan.
Now here’s the uncomfortable part.
Most high school practices are slower than the games.
So when the game speeds up…
Players panic.
Because they’ve never lived at that tempo.
Watch college pregame infield.
Balls don’t die in gloves.
Feet don’t stop moving.
Communication never drops.
It’s sharp.
It’s urgent.
It’s professional.
That didn’t magically appear at 19.
That was built at 15.
High school players
If your practice pace is casual,
your future is limited.
If you only move fast when coaches yell,
you’re already behind.
Speed isn’t a switch.
It’s a habit.
And habits don’t turn on when scouts show up.
They show up when nobody’s watching.
College baseball isn’t louder.
It’s cleaner.
Faster.
More intentional.
And the gap between high school and college?
It’s tempo.
Live at it now.
Or get exposed later.

There are no “little things” in baseball.
Character wins. Championship habits win. And lack of both certainly does not breed success.
It ALL adds up. The Game knows.
"Guys that will live by that are the same guys that will run balls out."
I asked Terry Francona why he says he likes this group so much. His answer started with a small thing that he believes is at the core of the team's culture.
@Angels Idk if it’s just me or what but why do I feel the Angels are the only team in baseball or sport for that matter that post their schedule before the season has ended.. there’s 31 games left bruh
