@JsyStats Further, who exactly responded? That makes a huge difference on how they view HE. In addition it flies in the face of the right to education, which is only based on ability.

@JsyStats This does not accord with the views of our group. Only funding for careers here would reduce opportunity and use of our talent. Particularly as many jobs only have be or two positions that a grad might be able to access and only if they studied a particular course.

@SamMezecJsy FYI. You forgot our uni students, who have been badly impacted having to rebook flights at the most expensive time, not under the rescue package, but will also have to wait for refunds. The student fares are not available on all routes according to info we have rec’d.

Worse for our students, max funding is less than all the other U.K. nations, ours studying away don’t benefit from being able to commute, they have additional travel costs, belongings there and back, and also have means tested fees, and don’t have a min maintenance funding level

Our students were treated differently before Brexit, no access to U.K. loans etc. We were not in the EU, now both U.K. and CDs are outside Brexit, Q is how will they treat our students?
Majority are Brit citz and were treated as such whilst in the EU.
Not squeak from our Gov.

It’s a pity that the Bursary is limited to so few, and others can’t benefit like Lily has, despite Gov widening who can apply this year, more applicants = less opportunity. The amount given out hasn’t changed since 2000, that’s 25 years!
Oh and the closing date was by 1st April.

Our students on a max grant for London receive £3542 less than those in this report do. U.K. rents have been higher than CPI for years, yet our Minister prefers to use U.K. CPI, and still not adjust for previous years where nothing was done at all.

Will the change to the threshold also cover fee thresholds?
i.e Fee income threshold, maintenance income threshold, both the top and bottom, and the income banding for fees, and the clinical course threshold.

@andysimm065 @FreddieCMMiller Additionally some do placements that mean working is impossible term time, some unis restrict working hours, ability of students to achieve the best is variable, needing to study more than others, or suffer failures.
Correct, working is a good idea for the reasons you state.

@andysimm065 @FreddieCMMiller This is about the level of support that parents can give, and the amount of grant students receive, against rising costs that for accommodation are above the usual RPI. With each year unadjusted grants inc what funds are needed to cover the gap.

@andysimm065 @FreddieCMMiller Sadly, not all can due to the type of course they do, (some have placements so they do gain work skills) some universities do not allow it or very limited.
If they don’t study enough because they work too long, their results suffer, needing resits. Repeat study isn’t funded.

@BBCJersey From our survey in 2022 compared to this year the number of students who no longer receive any maintenance grant has changed from 31.35% to 60.2%.
We concluded its is the thresholds and bandings not being adjusted for 6 years, & RPI for the amounts only partly.

Question is how many realise that ‘ income’ like this counts, and each minister might take a different view anyway.
