🙋‍♂️Students from Year 5 at @Trinityschoolje were our visitors to the States Chamber this morning.

🏦After learning about the history of the States Assembly and the different types of States Member, students held their own debate on the below proposition:

🤔'Jersey schools should have no half term break'

🗳️ After speeches both for and against, a vote was held, and the proposition was rejected!

🏛️ We've recently welcomed a number of groups to the States Chamber for a behind-the-scenes tour.

🗳️ They had the chance to explore the building's history, learn how Jersey's laws are debated and created, and even use the voting buttons.

The groups included:

• MA students from the Department of War Studies at @KingsCollegeLon
• Students from Compass Jersey

Trinity School Year 5 students visited the States Chamber today to learn about democracy and to experience what it's like to be a States Member, including holding their own debate:

'There should be an age restriction on using social media.'

Victoria College Prep School @JerseyVcp Year 5 students visited the States Chamber today to learn about democracy and to experience what it's like to be a States Member, including holding a debate.

In the morning, they debated that: 'Jersey should ban the use of AI in the Island.'

They voted to accept the Proposition:

In the afternoon, they debated: 'The use of VAR in football should be banned'.

They voted to reject the Proposition:

🏛️ Year 5 pupils from @StJohnPrimary were this morning's visitors to the States Chamber.

They discovered more about the history of the States Assembly and the building itself.

They also learned how Jersey's laws are created by holding a debate on their own proposition: 'Primary schools in Jersey should have 5-hour school days' and voted:

🇯🇪 Bouanne Libéthâtion or Happy Liberation Day! 🇯🇪

Today marks the 81st anniversary of Jersey's Liberation. As part of the commemorations, a special States Meeting will be held at 11am in Liberation Square.

The Bailiff, Robert MacRae, will deliver his first Liberation Day address since taking office, while the outgoing Connétable of Trinity, Philip Le Sueur, will deliver the traditional annual speech.

🏛️ Year 5 pupils from Jersey College Prep were this week's visitors to the States Chamber.

As well as learning about the importance of the States Assembly and its history, the pupils also took part in their own debate.

🗳️ The proposition, which they chose, was: 'Social media should be banned for all children under the age of 16s.'

The morning group voted to adopt the proposition:
