[States Assembly - Jersey's elected parliament @StatesAssembly]

🎉 Congratulations to Ophelia and Jersey College for Girls!

Ophelia and JCG were named the winning speaker and school at our first ever 'Mark My Words' public speaking competition, held in the States Chamber.

40 students from seven of Jersey's secondary schools rose to the challenge, showcasing the power of political public speaking.

The judging panel - @deputyrobward, @DeputyCCurtis and @DouglasKruger - praised the high standard across the board, describing the speeches as exceptional, well-crafted and confidently delivered.

A huge thank you to all the students and schools who took part. We're already looking forward to next year's event!

🎉 It's here! The very first meeting of the Jersey Youth Assembly is happening tonight!

⏰ From 4 - 5.30pm, JYA members will be getting together for introductions, activities, snacks(!) and a private tour of the States Chamber. The JYA team will be at the States Members' door in the Royal Square to meet you just before 4pm.

The town car parks are already rammed on a Saturday. Making them free will just mean more drivers circling round the ring road until a space becomes free, contesting and polluting on the way.

A much more effective way of helping retail would be a free bus service on Saturdays.
