Thoughts on Gators-Auburn:
* Terrific win. On the road, two first year coaches, 90,000 fans, all the storylines. And youβre 3-0. A little hairy at the end but who cares. Terrific win.
* Offense is good. Like, really good. Play-calling is superb. Big four: Philo, Baugh, VB III, Wilson. So good. All of em. Baugh might be best back in the country. And still playing without Singleton.
* Defense had its moments. 7 sacks. Early pick. But at times still felt soft. Allowed 39 points. At its best when blitzing. Might be the formula.
And 99 looks like he has passed 11 and 24. Didnβt expect that. But heβs a good player. Other two havenβt really shown up. Woods also had his best game of the year.
* If they get some help from the rush, the secondary is decent.
* Special teams matter. They are very good.
* Gators are very well-coached. Made some mistakes. But coaching is very good.
One of the hardest things for a young coaching staff is how to close out wins. When do you take your foot off the gas and run clock, when do you go for the kill.
Thought they got a little conservative up 41-24 after the 4th down stop. But will learn from it and still won.
* Have to clean up the penalties. In fairness, this crew was flag happy. And the call on McClain was horrible. But still have to clean it up.
* This was a huge win. Kinda like the β90 team - Spurrierβs first team - winning early at Bama. After that, you kinda knew it would be different than it had been.
I think we now know. It is different.
What a showdown next week.
Cheers.
