Santa came last wk w/ S&P +1.4%, Mag7 +1.3% & my AI index +1.6% w/ $GOOG complex +3.3% & OpenAI complex +0.7%. But is gold/silver +4%/+18% despite recent core CPI the lowest since Mar-2021 sniffing out an issue for 2026?

My goal in the near-term is to hopefully enjoy the last 5 trading days of the “Santa Claus rally.” Over the full 7 trading days, the S&P is on average +1.3% and up over 70% of the time. Over the first two days it gained 0.3% already.

As I think about 2026, I plan on focusing on what is right in front of me with the expectations that it will be very choppy but with an upward bias due to the continuation of easy money and AI spending. As Charles Darwin would say, I am trying to stay “adaptable to change.”

Bigger picture positives include the Q1 tax benefits of the One Big Beautiful Bill, more easy money with a new Fed chair in May and continuation of AI spending which is entering its fourth year since the launch of ChatGPT.

Bigger picture negatives include the potential for inflation to not be transitory putting an end to easy money, less well positioned AI players not meeting their goals or getting funding, and high S&P valuations leaving minimal margin of safety.

I plan to put out my detailed write-up for 2026 along with launching my Top5 Picks for 2026 on @CNBC with @CarlQuintanilla @SaraEisen on 12/31. The Picks will contain some defense and offense. I have it down to seven names including one Pick from 2025, one Mag7 name, one country, two turnarounds and a smaller tech name hitting a potential inflection point.

Happy holidays to all. Time for me to hit the gym to work off all that pumpkin pie and eggnog I had while watching Christmas movies.
