@Delta I appreciate having the app for convenience, but when I'm at an airport where I can't get a paper ticket at a machine then a boarding pass not loading in the app is real problem. Fortunately, there was no line at the counter.
Speaking of Starlink just working with partners... It isn't the same situation, but Royal Caribbean's use of Starlink involves port blocking. No SSH to my own servers, and VPNs blocked.
Any chance Starlink could move to prevent partners from doing this when advertising their use of Starlink?
@straczynski@OliverJia1014 It is true, AI hasn't lived up to even mediocre human storytelling.
But the depressing thing is that people are still consuming this content uncritically, and in frightening numbers.
@Not_the_Bee Happened to my father some years ago, and his physician refused to prescribe him medication because said physician did not believe that Lyme disease existed in the Ozarks.
He only had treatment after threatening to take proof of such to people who could keep him accountable.
@OliverJia1014 My "if I get rich" dream was to fund a movie about Commodore Matthew Perry starring actor Matthew Perry.
Historical comedy, with a farcical "what really happened" plot, with Perry being talented but inept and oblivious, Harry Crumb style.
Ah, what could have been.
Checks and balances are the reason we have multiple branches of government.
Courts do not get to make law (though many judges often try), but they do get to determine whether laws conflict, especially when it comes to the Constitution.
Any law conflicting with the Constitution is invalid. This is the court doing its job correctly.
Dear Santa Gunn,
I know it's early, but I want to give you time to get started. For Christmas I would like a film trilogy featuring The Question, one movie for each of the three main arcs of his character: from Ditko to O'Neal to Timm.
You can put that last version in your Justice League film if you can't get all three solo movies. It'll be fun. Mr. Timm can attest.
@SWENGDAD It is the only morally and logically congruent stance.
Anyone suggesting otherwise is a hypocrite pushing a morally fraught position. A dirtbag, if you will.
I feel the same way about my future hypothetical children, but I also worry about what I can do to ensure they are able to carry forward the same lessons without the experience.
Even if I'm lucky enough that they come out well with supervision, I don't want them to go on to raise little entitled brats of grandchildren.
@xwanyex Two criteria I look for in terms of personal fit for software engineers:
- I want you to care about something. It doesn't have to be the same things I care about. You can even disagree with me.
- I want you to be able to let it go at work so the team can just get things done.
English-language press all seem to be taking notes from the same place, citing her as ultra-conservative. And right-wing and quoting the same moderate "not alienating conservatives" quotes.
Actual analysis to justify the categorization is never present.
I'd love to know how much is laziness and how much is narrative control (and how that works in this realm).
@DudespostingWs This is something no one should do yo people minding their own business.
But it is absolutely something someone should do to their friends.
@xwanyex In a free, open market, the blame for prices being sky-high lay on the people paying them.
They are free to spend their money as they choose, just as I'm free to check out and call them idiots.
I'm so unjustifiably proud of this stupid joke that I'll probably chase down the correct fonts later.
(It is for a real lesson, but the slides aren't done due to me wasting time on this nonsense.)
@Birdprenorphine@wanyeburkett I understand the dark humor there and even the grim reality that there might have been positive change from a heinous act.
But they were mentally ill kids out for vengeance. Not the path I chose, for certain.
@wanyeburkett I do believe that "with great power must come great responsibility", but to whom and how is between a person and God. Anyone demanding it does so inappropriately. They aren't part of that conversation.
