After RED5, he was given a million dollars to launch a VR game called voxelnauts. He never produced anything beyond the original trailer and was accused by employees of embezzling money from the company in lieu of paying them for services rendered, and was allegedly ousted again.

He did not “save wow from being canceled”. He was apparently mostly involved with non-technical work at blizzard (EULAs) was erratic, and famously difficult to work with.
