@YorkUWomenMusic Especially older women, who are often glossed over when people discuss ARMYs. Moreover, when people refer to AMRYs as rabid teenage girls, it is not only demeaning to the teens that love the group. However, it also erases the global and diverse fandom BTS has accumulated. 3/3
@YorkUWomenMusic However, this article challenges the narrative surrounding fandom and gender for the boy group BTS. The article discusses the diverse demographic of fans that the global k-pop group has amassed over their career. 2/3 https://t.co/ODmXF1Ou55
@JaggedLilPill19@YorkUWomenMusic Monae is referencing a future where black women are centred; by liberating them from the struggles they have faced. This is important as afrofuturism offers a way to engage with the past by reimagining a future for black people, which Monae expressed incredibly! (3/3)
@JaggedLilPill19@YorkUWomenMusic afrofuturistic by itself as it paints a picture to the audience of a planet that is just black women. In conjunction with Monae sitting on the throne, like you mentioned, the very reference to another planet that frees black women from the struggles they face on earth. (2/3)
@YorkUWomenMusic Keri uses the concept of beauty throughout generations to reinforce the song's lyrics about self-confidence and feeling beautiful. Keri also has fun by dancing silly and engaging with the camera as she poses jokingly. She also playfully takes on various personas for each look.2/2
@YorkUWomenMusic I think the music video for Pretty Girl Rock by Keri Hilson is a great example of camp. Camp is all about being playful, anti-serious and having fun. In the music video for Pretty Girl Rock, Keri is seen in numerous looks throughout different decades. 1/2
@YorkUWomenMusic of sex appeal to be even considered as a serious artist worth listening to.The financial cost of women musicians should not be the reason why record labels hesitate to sign women. Especially considering how male musicians are not held to this standard. https://t.co/g9fB9RIiY5
@YorkUWomenMusic Every artist needs investment from their record label in order to create and promote their work. Record labels just don’t believe that women are worth that investment.Women musicians are costly to record labels because of sexism, they are expected to look a certain way and exude
@YorkUWomenMusic For the majority of the music video the members are seen dancing together, however when each member has their solo part, you can see the other girls standing behind the member. Reminding the audience of their commitment to having each others back literally and figuratively.
@YorkUWomenMusic In the music video the members all are rocking their own unique outfits which point to the message they want to send with the song. Which is that the members will continue to be unapologetically themselves. Despite how many critics tell them to act more feminine or "acceptable".
@Apex_2227@YorkUWomenMusic I've heard a lot about NIKI but I haven't listened to any of her music yet, is there any songs of hers you would recommended!?
@YorkUWomenMusic My favourite artist list include Beyonce, Whitney, Megan, BTS, Seventeen, Monsta X and so many more. I am really hoping to learn about Beyonce & Whitney this year because they have been the biggest music influences in my life since I was kid, and their music has been so impactful
@YorkUWomenMusic Hi everyone!! My favourite concert I've been to was early this September when I went to see Seventeen with my sister. It was both our first concert and it was amazing the crowd was so loud & hype, and Seventeen were incredible performers!!
