There's a lack of understanding about what really drives growth in civilian federal spending. The absolute number of federal civilian employees has been pretty flat since the 1950s. What has grown dramatically is entitlements like social security, and federal contracts.
This is really important. We have an enormous amount of work yet to do, but we have made enormous progress in fighting climate change. It is important to recognize this and to fight climate despair.
