Posted a new video! In 1992, Naoya Ogawa captured his fourth straight All Japan Championships title. The match between Yoshio Nakamura and Kenji Osuki (starts at 30:30) was rough! You don't see those kinds of matches these days!

@lavidajudoka Well written. I'm in complete agreement here. the broadcast over the last few days has been incredible. however, the pricing structure is out of reach for the vast majority of people in the world.
@lancew@_MarkPickering Especially after yesterday's edition, it needs to happen! I thought the year that Wolf won was great, but this year had so much variety and depth overall.
@lavidajudoka He was clearly not on the same level as he was when he represented Japan, but still probably the best judoka Australia has. Slim chance at a medal but it's not impossible and realistic chance to place 5th.
Kaihan Takagi's dream of the Olympics seems to be definitively over. Though I don't know the details, more transparency from Judo Australia seems appropriate here.

@lavidajudoka Yeah, I find this case particularly sad because I think Takagi (as well as news outlets) gave the impression that he was nearly a lock for the Olympics, and then somewhere around last March started tweeting in a way that signalled he knew that it wouldn't be that easy...
The number of registered judo practitioners in Japan has reached a dangerously low level. Registration dropped over 20,000 between FY2019 and FY2020. What does the future hold?

Judo legend Kaori Yamaguchi weighs in on the Tokyo Olympics. She's been one of the most vocal and influential judo figures in Japan for quite some time now. Unfortunately, dialogue seems to dw https://t.co/UrXCHHvHYr
@_MarkPickering Yeah, I read about that. University judo looks like it will be off again this year. The men's national team training camp also got called off because a member of the Olympic team tested positive. Judo isn't the best activity when there is a pandemic going on.
Judo legend Shinohara Shinichi has excused himself of being a torch bearer for the Olympic relay. It is admirable that several highly regarded members of the judo community have entered the public debate. Thank you. https://t.co/ogLNWw1gnY
@ifrit218 Yes, the police teams in Japan have been very cautious and are still only doing limited practices. I feel bad that many of them will not be able to train regularly for the foreseeable future.
Fan favorite, Kato Hirotaka's career has essentially been ended by covid. For 3 months leading up to last year's All Japan Championships, he was limited to practicing with only 2 other athletes. At 35, it's doubtful we see him again...

Genki Koga wrote an excellent, fantastically written tribute to his father. I will be rooting for him at next month's world championships. Too busy to translate it, but it's worth copy and pasting into some translation software.

An inspired day for Toshihiko's two sons. Genki Koga won Japan's most prestigious weight class tournament in the -60 category while his older brother, Hayato just won the All Japan Open Weight qualifying tournament in Kanagawa Prefecture. Like father, like son. Well done.
Today is the beginning of the fiscal year in Japan. University graduates begin work today. Park 24 has added Akira Sone and Kosuke Mashiyama to their already incredible roster of athletes. Best judo team on the planet at the moment.
