Just as nearly all of our birds have now left their nests, time for our team to fledge & leave Öland to well deserved vacations!
Thank you to this amazing crew of hard working students & technicians seen here on picture 2 during a visit of @OttenbyBO earlier this season.
This so called "broken collar" on the neck might not be the favourite attribute in the eyes of the (#bird) ladies, but it's always an exciting sight to us researchers : this is most likely a #hybrid between pied and collared #flycatchers!

A lot is happening very fast in the forest right now! From late hatching to 6 days old when the chicks are 1st measured, to 12 days old where they have most of their feathers and are often as big as, and heavier than their parents. And our 1st fledglings now leaving their nests!
Today I came across this email from a couple years ago, from a former student who recently got into med school.
I'm sad and angry to be leaving academia in the way that I am, but I regret nothing about what I've done for my students.
