Had to explain to one student on behalf of another student that it's not okay to touch curly hair without getting consent.
Keep your hands to yourselves folks. Turns out middle schoolers still haven't learned this.
Teaching beginner band with a mask on is so so hard.
I need to model proper embouchure and position but I can't without putting myself at risk.
I'm so tired.
Last day of school and I came prepared. Fresh mask for after the crying, fresh change of clothes for after the hugs and disinfectant wipes for my arms and other stuff.
I am not catching covid on the last day of school.
@theLUCASTDS I co-teach Band in Armstrong and we held an outdoor a few weeks ago. Total downpour in the middle of it but we had a great time despite it! It was the only way I felt safe putting on a concert and I'm proud of all the fine art teachers performing outdoors during covid β
Me: in these 3 classes I have 3 times the mask exemptions as my entire other school has.
Person with power to help: we have 3 times the number of students at this school than at this other school.
Me: I'm talking about 3 classes not the whole school.
ps. the tweet was actually a reply to a BCTF one which means my old super was creeping the replies knowing there would be upset teachers in his school district there
what a scumbag
Remember when I tweeted about my district's old superintendent not letting us ask students to wear masks at around this time last year and it resulted in him telling my school's admin to deal with it by meeting with me in the office with no warning or context? Good times.
The moral of the story is admin with no backbone and senior leadership can push amazing teachers out of the profession
I'm so glad I took a break from the classroom after experiencing that last year because I'm becoming the teacher I knew I could be now
Hey #disabilitytwitter in #Canada: can anyone tell me if you lose your disability income tax credit when you get married? I know we lose disabiltiy payments but I am lucky enough to be able to work. Not sure about the #taxcredit - which I am always thankful for during tax season
I don't know why I feel the need to share, but trust me, I would much rather work -
sometimes you just can't
and the reason why is complicated

I leave myself as available for teacher on call work, but I am still very careful with what I accept.
Navigating being in the classroom before I have any sort of antibody protection is especially difficult when you also need to pace yourself as a person with Chronic Fatigue
Disclosing "I have Chronic Fatigue" to a stranger on the phone is not something I feel I can do.
Some work will burn me out more than other work and if I have to juggle unknown variables without antibodies I simply have to stay home
I got a call at 10:57 this morning asking me if I could get to the rec center for a leftover vaccine dose by noon
11:57 came around and I was vaccinated! I am so relieved and thankful. I really believe this should have happened ages ago but at least we're here now

In the fall of 2017, I completed the Camino de Santiago in Spain. It was tough and I took lots of breaks and busses, but I did it.
Today I went on a two hour hike and crashed so hard, I accidentally napped in the car on the way home.
This is chronic fatigue.
