@stehoare@JoshL_94 Where does it end though? Is 1 season of grieving enough? What if some players are still struggling with it next season? How about the one after that?
In any case, it’s the coach’s job to pick the players that are mentally able to perform and leave the ones who can’t out.
@Chris78Williams Nah, I’m hatewatching till he’s gone. Only then can the club start the process of returning to it’s former self.
The only way out is through.
@Knox_Harrington Fine. Trick yourselves into thinking this season was a one-off. Convince yourselves that someway, somehow we’ll magically be back to our pre-March ‘25-level after a summer break.
But when we’re out of the title race by late October next season, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann You’re doing that mitigating thing again, Phil.
And I always think we should be challenging for the title. We’re Liverpool, not Everton. I guess fuck me for thinking title-winning mentality monsters twice shattering the transfer record are able to do a repeat. Silly me, I know.
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann Yes, title winning form. Like the last two seasons before this. And before investing 500m.
The thing is you’ve fully bought the mitigating narrative. I haven’t. 12 losses, 19 (20) in total is not acceptable no matter all the hindsight in the world or however you want to spin it.
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann Already there you have a 21 point swing.
All things considering, this Liverpool side should be getting 77-82 points per season.
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann Great question, let’s plays this one out.
We got 9 points out of 30 possible against the top six and 5 points out of 18 against the promoted sides. 48 points and we got 14. As champions I’d say we should be getting at 35 points from those games. At a very minimum.
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann They can parrot the "mitigating circumstances" line all they want, who actually believes we’ve had more injuries than the average club?
And more importantly, who gets paid to detect holes and availability issues in the squad?
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann There’s exactly zero chance Slot, Edwards and Hughes sat down after the season and said "you know what, let’s aim for 5th next season, yeah?". They thought this squad could win it all. We all thought we would. So when we didn’t, who’s to blame?
@PhilBlundell@Bmtbrev@RobGutmann Yep, after winning the league in March, investing 500m and talks of dominating the next 4-5 years, everyone at the club were creaming themselves at the thought of getting 70 points, right?
It’s been an absolute shitshow of a season and Slot’s been at the helm for all of it.
@AnfieldEdition@ptgorst Because they’re a trio and FSG are seeing their project till the end no matter the results.
It’s why none of them are getting new contracts either.
The crazy thing is FSG not seeing how many years this is going to set the club back.
@AnfieldEdition@ptgorst Last summer was supposed to be the starting point of years of Liverpool dominance. Just 9 months later and we’re an absolute shitshow. Wow.
It just goes to show how not having the right people in charge can destroy every momentum a club has.
