Unconditional love is for children.
Not for romantic relationships.
Adult love has conditions, and that's not a bad thing. It's what makes healthy relationships possible.
Love without respect becomes resentment.
Love without trust becomes anxiety.
Love without loyalty becomes insecurity.
Love without effort becomes one-sided.
A partner is not your parent. They are not obligated to tolerate dishonesty, disrespect, neglect, betrayal, or constant selfishness in the name of "unconditional love."
Healthy relationships are built on mutual respect, trust, loyalty, communication, and consistent effort from both people.
The strongest relationships aren't unconditional.
They're built on two people continuously meeting the conditions that make love worth keeping.
And respect is one of the most important conditions of all.
Once a trauma therapist said something that stopped me cold:
"People-pleasing isn't kindness. It's a child negotiating for safety in an adult body."
Here are 7 ways she said this old survival deal still runs your life: 1/10
Literally my therapist asked me a question that ruined me for 3 days:
"If your inner voice was a person, would you let them babysit your kid?"
I sat there.
Frozen.
Because I knew the answer.
Then she said something I'll carry forever: 1/13
Some of you don't realize how much of your personality can disappear when you don’t feel emotionally safe around someone. You become quieter. More careful with your words. Less playful, less willing to be seen. Some connections expand you. Others teach you to disappear.
We defeated diseases so successfully that people forgot how terrifying the diseases were.
Now they’re more frightened of the vaccines.
That’s an extraordinary failure of memory.
Can someone explain why ADHD gives us the emotional wisdom of an ancient philosopher for other people's problems, but the organizational skills of a raccoon in a dumpster for our own chores?
The math is not mathing.
This is huge for ADHD. Forget about that shame you have for not going to the gym consistently as much as you forget to text your friends back. Just go and pretend it’s a brand new thing you’re doing, without the baggage.
The obsession with 'becoming somebody' is a sickness sold to you by people who profit from your discontent.
A flower in the woods does not bloom to prove a point to the meadow. It simply opens because it has stored enough light.
You do not need to justify your existence. Being here is already the answer.
Not knowing what you want in life is not a lack of passion.
It happens when you spend twenty years choosing the correct answer instead of the true one.
Your desires didn't die. The muscle just atrophied from disuse.
