Are you an EU-based academic/scientist? Then sign this open letter calling on the European Commission and EU Member States to commit to establishing a roadmap and a European Research Area action to accelerate the transition to non-animal science. https://t.co/DKym7sEqoZ
MPs have voted to ban protests at animal testing sites.
The plans could make protesting a criminal offence.

Positive positioning and wise budgeting proposal from the Netherlands with the House of Representatives accepting a motion to redirect government funding from research using animals to research not using animals #EndAnimalTesting#ResearchModernisationDeal
Vooruitgang!!! ❤️❤️❤️ 👍👍👍
Recent paper by multiple DART experts highlights the urgent need for an open discussion between CROs, registrants, and ECHA - significant scientific and technical challenges with in vivo DART studies that are having a severe impact on animal welfare. https://t.co/gPm9tWfZpB
This new paper has been getting a lot of attention. It's good to see the 95% drug failure rate holds up, but I have some concerns about how animal-to-human "concordance" was calculated. 🧵

Progress in the UK! 🇬🇧 After @PETAUK raised this issue to the @ukhomeoffice for the first time in 2019 & many times since; shared briefings & updates; presented at scientific conferences; wrote op-eds; engaged with cross-party MPs & the @MHRAgovuk; led a letter signed by 400+ scientists, academics, medical, & veterinary professionals, & more, the UK Home Office claimed this morning that it would take steps to fully ban the #forcedswimtest.
Lord Sharpe issued his statement, accepting the recommendation's made last year by the UK Animals in Science Committee to refuse to grant licenses to projects proposing to use the #FST as a model of #depression or for the study of #anxiety & its treatment. Sharpe stated his intent to go further: "I aim to completely eliminate the use of the forced swim test."
However, in a concerning move, the letter was removed almost as quickly as it was published. Good thing we kept the receipts!

In reality, there is no need to wait for a “validated alternative” to the test in order to end it completely, as the forced swim test is a poor scientific method which produces unreliable results. That being said, @PETAUK wrote to Sharpe recently to inform him of exciting new technology for screening anti-depressants, providing further reason to ban the test now.
🗣️ "The priority must be to move away from using animals and focus instead on developing and implementing human-relevant methods," Dr @juliabaines1 writes. https://t.co/K4QzByDKq4
Thank you to everyone who supported the open letter against the horrific forced swim test. Hoping to hear some postive news from the @ukhomeoffice on this test soon. https://t.co/zxMom2vKI1
@vicinity_de I ordered some trainers on 22 Nov, they haven't arrived and after emailing customer services 3 times, still no response. I'd like a refund
Spending the evening at the women in revolt exhibition @Tate reminds me the fight is ours to take. It's not over. The dark side of cosmetics testing on animals has been revealed. Tell @eu_comission to #endcosmeticstestsonanimals and come clean to consumers https://t.co/XypnLsAWw9
@EUCourtPress Send a message to @vsinkevicius telling him what you think about the practice of poisoning and killing animals in cruel and unreliable tests:

@EUCourtPress This damning verdict has made a mockery of the judicial system by effectively destroying the once groundbreaking EU ban on animal testing for cosmetics.
BREAKING: @EUCourtPress has ruled AGAINST cosmetics ingredients manufacturer Symrise AG.
In one fell swoop, the court has sentenced thousands of rats, rabbits, and fish to horrific suffering and certain death in cruel tests 😠

VIEW | This #WorldDiabetesDay, it’s high time all experiments on animals used to study the condition were replaced with humane, human-relevant research, Dr @juliabaines1 writes.
🥁 Drumroll, please! PETA’s 2023 Christmas advert, with the incredible @janehorrocks_ as the voice of Tessa the turkey, is here. Start a new tradition. Leave turkeys off the table. ❤️🦃
