'You can only control what you post; you can't control how people respond' is what a coach said when we were chatting about social media at a networking event last week. Although at an absolute level, this statement is true... it's also not true. We can influence how people respond to our posts on 2 levels: 1. The obvious - we can engineer our posts to encourage engagement - e.g. ask a question or share an opinion that's not the norm 2. The less obvious - we can proactively engage with posts from either people we want to notice us, or people with audiences we'd love to attract. Doing this regularly can mean that your posts get seen by many more of the right people than if you just post randomly and leave it to chance. So, the next time you hear someone say the line at the top, remember - you have more control than many people think!
