Tonight, I had dinner with a relative who was a university student in Beijing during the 1989 Tiananmen Square incident, experiencing the student protests firsthand.

He was also among the first generation of Chinese talents to be recruited by top South Korean companies after the establishment of Sino-Korean diplomatic relations, trained in South Korea for a year, and then achieved remarkable business expansion results in China.

Now in his mid-50s, he reflected on change of his understanding of democracy and China.

He told me that when he was young, he firmly believed that Western democratic system and the separation of powers were the antidote to China's societal issues.

However, after over 30 years of working and living between China and South Korea and witnessing the historical changes in both countries, he saw that in South Korea's "democratic" society, the endless fight between different conglomerates, political parties, and politicians, can't provide any absolute fairness or freedom.

Moreover, national interests were continually being compromised and exported to foreign entities.

As a young man, he also believed that mainstream media in democratic societies was entirely independent and free.

Yet, he observed for international political events even unrelated to China or South Korea, how South Korean mainstream media selectively ignored or reported, often in ways completely opposite to Chinese mainstream media, subtly influencing the public to align with Western-centric perspectives rather than uncovering the full truth of events.

He said that the longer he experienced life in both countries, the more he abandoned his illusions about the so-called 'democratic' system.

Looking back, he realized that many of China's actions were efforts to protect national interests, control its destiny, and safeguard the welfare of the majority.

Though there're still numerous societal issues, he said, China has done exceptionally well in most of the matters related to national strategy.

It is clear that you do not understand Chinese society, culture, and values.

You have underestimated the extent to which the Chinese people are willing to make sacrifices to safeguard national dignity and ensure that the era of humiliation never returns.

On this matter, there is overwhelming unity and strong support for the Chinese government.

Especially at a time when the current U.S. President speaks irresponsibly, lacking credibility, and repeatedly insults and slanders China, don't you think that engaging in serious negotiations with his administration is nothing but a waste of time?

Elon Musk’s Grok-3 is truly impressive. I spent over two hours this afternoon refining our 17,000-word monthly lecture recap—a task GPT Pro couldn’t manage well. Then I discovered that Grok-3’s beta feature had become available on my end.

I ran it through once, and the first 10,000 words or so were noticeably better than the version I’d just spent two hours editing myself. However, the remaining 7,000 words felt rushed—it condensed them into just a few hundred.

I refined my instructions, focusing solely on the last 7,000 words, and the result was excellent this time.

I praised it, and its reply in Chinese was so natural, no robotic vibe at all. How does it even do that?!

Huang Yuting, a 17-year-old high school student from Zhejiang, sports the popular "bun" hairstyle. She was also a triple gold medalist at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Sheng Lihao, a 19-year-old from Jiangsu province, made history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. At just 16, he won the silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle, becoming the youngest medalist in Olympic shooting history!

This is the first time in my life that watching the Olympics opening ceremony has left me with a lingering sense of discomfort.

The continuous series of bizarre scenes overwhelmed the many beautiful and creative moments.

The golden bull next to the Olympic rings was the most shocking image for me. It stood out too starkly against the traditional presentation of the Olympic rings.

And the mock of the Last Supper—how can that be an expression of inclusiveness, freedom, and diversity? Isn’t it an offense to the sacred image held dear by so many Christians?

The Olympics are meant to be independent of politics and religion, uniting the world. Shouldn't they avoid religious expressions?

Inclusiveness and diversity still have a boundary of mutual respect. Why is it acceptable to mock the Christian faith on such a grand stage?

Chongli of Heibei province, once a nationally designated impoverished county, has transformed through sports.

I remember when Chongli was already famous for winter skiing, the government proposed developing it into a mountain biking destination for the summer. At that time, I thought, "Uh... mountain biking is too niche."

Nowadays, mountain bikers race down the trails one after another; running events also bring high-quality traffic to Chongli during the summer. From last week's Hood to Coast, this week's Adida Terrex Chongli 168 Ultra Trail, to the Spartan obstacle race in early August.

The cool and pleasant temperature is Chongli's natural gift, and the choices of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment options are now quite extensive, making it perfect for a weekend getaway.

Today, the cars parked at the hotel have license plates from Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, and Shandong.

Besides the event participants, there are noticeably more families on weekend trips, and groups of ladies in colorful dresses are touring around, showing a more diverse range of visitors.

Early in my career, I witnessed how the Mild Seven Outdoor Quest ignited tourism in Dali and Lijiang in Yunnan Province. The world-class photography, broadcasting, and promotion honestly attracted me to join my previous company.

Over the years, seeing the gradual changes in Chongli, time has proven the foresight of its strategic planning. Time has also shown the powerful joy that sports bring. I believe Chongli will continue to become an international sports tourism destination.
