Last year I received one of the most intimidating and meaningful invitations of my life, to contribute an essay to this @WestBranchMag retrospective on Brigit Pegeen Kelly’s SONG. https://t.co/LFdNcsbFHu
I’m sorry, but I fucking hate summer. I mean I like summer for a little bit but then I’m like just give me the cold and dead trees and then the snow. Fuck summer. If your name is Summer I’m not mad at you.
This past winter, I was invited to read a poem at @UMich President Santa Ono's inauguration and given the impression that I could determine the poem's content. I pitched a poem about my single mother returning to college in her 40s as a non-traditional student. 🧵

Thank you @NarrativeMag editors for including this sprawling poem about bats and bodies. And thank you @notsumatra for helping me figure out this poem back in 2020! ❤️

My thanks to @nickripatrazone and the rest of @Image_Journal. I am so, so grateful to have found a home for this essay with you all. In this piece, I consider the question of God’s calling and the calling of literature (calls to submissions, calls to readers)
Really honored to be a finalist this year - especially for a 10 page poem about Sleeping Beauty, narrative control, and (un)motherhoods that I wasn’t sure would ever find a home. Can’t wait to read the winners’ and fellow finalists’ poems in the fall ❤️
