Too many countries block refugees with barbed wire, at closed borders.
Uganda is still a generous safe haven.
It is home to almost 2 million refugees who fled violence in South Sudan, DR Congo, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia.
In spite of funding shortages, it remains a welcoming refugee hosting country, allowing people freedom of movement, to build livelihoods, and to settle in communities rather than in camps.
Now, Uganda is struggling to cope, because international funding cuts from donors who promised to stand by Uganda as a host-country.
Families tell NRC that they don’t have enough food, that classrooms are overcrowded, and that basic services are stretched to breaking point. Women and children – who make up 87% of the refugee population – are bearing the brunt of this neglect.
Our new video explains what makes Uganda’s approach so important, how it’s under threat, and why the international community must step up:
⬇️
Uganda has long been a generous host of refugees, and yet international support for its work with vulnerable displaced people is being slashed.
Already, food rations have been suspended for about 1 million refugees in the country because of severe funding shortfalls.
⬇️
Without support in Uganda, those fleeing violence and disaster will be forced to flee once more.
Essential that more is done to support Uganda – and other refugee hosting countries.
Families like Tumsifu’s must not be abandoned:⬇️
Extreme weather fueled by climate change is devastating communities in Uganda.
In Bidi Bidi refugee settlement, West Nile region, people who have already had to flee conflict face such extreme & unpredictable weather that it makes survival difficult.

The most appropriate place to keep your litter while driving is your car. Kindly stop littering roads, highways & streets. At best, it’s backwardness.
