The Teryl Austin is a “yes man” or “Tomlin runs the defense” narratives are just lazy. Yes, the foundation of the defense is Tomlin, but if you really think Austin just sits in his office & does nothing for game planning, doesn’t control adjustments, playcalling, etc - then your hate for Tomlin is blinding.

Austin still has a big part in the failures of the defense - he isn’t good at the job. However, the defense’s foundation (Tomlin’s part) has its major flaws. Tomlin needs to hire a DC that is creative, understanding of the times, & just trust a coordinator with the defense. If he doesn’t understand that, then he needs to leave as well. But let’s stop these narratives that Austin doesn’t actually do anything.
