@HMRCcustomers
If you are an employee and go on a business trip abroad and use your personal PAYG mobile phone and only claim for business usage, is there an exemption so that this isn't reported on the P11D?https://t.co/voVy9xgyQZ
@HMRCcustomers I have spoken with HMRC this morning. They have advised that as this is in addition to your own personal, monthly bundle, it must be declared on the P11D at the end of the 2023/24 tax year. You will then be able to claim that this taxable amount was wholly for business purposes.
@HMRCcustomers Hi Sucona, have you had a response as to what evidence HMRC requires? "With data charges like these, there is a duality of purpose and we cannot provide the necessary evidence to HMRC that it was solely for business purpose."
@HMRCcustomers Yes this is the case. However my employer says I need to prove that the data used abroad was 100% business use. If I can't provide evidence then it becomes taxable! Isn't the fact I'm on business in another country enough?
@HMRCcustomers Here is the response "With data charges like these, there is a duality of purpose and we cannot provide the necessary evidence to HMRC that it was solely for business purpose.".
@HMRCcustomers Thanks I agree with you. But my employer is quoting the link I sent which says "Your employee has a ‘pay as you go’ mobile and you reimburse them for business calls
You must report the amount on form P11D. You don’t have to deduct and pay any tax or National Insurance."
Congratulations to the team and especially first author Zipei Song for winning the Best Paper Award at the 28th International Conference on Optical Fiber Sensors in Hamamatsu, Japan! Thank you to the conference organizers and the TPC for such an excellent event #ofs28

@HMRCcustomers I went on business abroad and used my own mobile phone. My package covers line-rental, UK data+calls, so I just claimed the international data charges on my expenses. However, my employer says this should be treated as a taxable benefit. Is this true?
