@theTroi A10. That is a great question. I honestly do not have an answer to this one. There are too many factors - will we address racism? Climate change? Systemic injustice? This defines how bioblitzes will look. #CitSciChat
@theTroi A9. Ask the community in question what they are interested in, and then determine how to synthesize community interests with local ecology. This leaves space for collaboration and creativity. #CitSciChat
@theTroi A8. Yes - bioblitz information can be used to inform multiple management strategies. For ex: the Vermont Lady Beetle Atlas has been created to record all lady beetles in VT, using citizen science, so beetles can be mapped, and management strategies can be applied. #CitSciChat
@theTroi A7. I don’t think there should be a standardized method to enable creativity. Within the Blitz, protocols should be followed to ensure that data collected has accurate information attached to it. ex: ensuring everyone records date, time and location for each species. #CitSciChat
@theTroi I think it needs to be collaborative, even control between scientists and community members. How this happens? That is a whole other question #CitSciChat
@theTroi A6. The most important benefit of conducting a bioblitz is the act of connecting a community with the nature that surrounds them and connects them with each other. The most important aspect of participating is the creation of this community. #CitSciChat
@theTroi@DragonflyWoman2 Not yet, we are still in our piolet year. That said, we want to find all the lady beetles present in VT so we can implement management strategies. #CitSciChat
@theTroi A4. During the weekend of May 15, VCE held a lady beetle bioblitz. During this bioblitz, Spencer Hardy, a biologist at VCE found a Four-spotted Spurleg Lady Beetle, the first to be recorded in Vermont since 1976. #CitSciChat
@theTroi@NatGeo A2. When I hear the word “bioblitz,” I think of a community or group going outside at the same time to look for the same group of species. I think of a bioblitz as an excellent tool to engage children and communities at large with the nature surrounding them. #CitSciChat
@theTroi@DragonflyWoman2@sumdawg Hi! I am tweeting from Vermont, where I serve as the ECO AmeriCorps member at Vermont Center for Ecostudies. I am the Community Science Outreach Naturalist. #CitSciChat
