Dear America:
Have you considered that the future of human expertise may lie in skills performed by hands AND minds? The students in my latest article are obsessed with the world of work-skills championships. Why? Here's what I learned. https://t.co/zXR59HCA9k @guardian
What are you doing this weekend?
I'm seeing THE AI DOC: Or How I Became An Apocaloptimist, which heavily features my @HumaneTech_ work pals @tristanharris and @aza and we've just released a special preview podcast episode with the film's producers. 🪄 https://t.co/uj52STqKte
My utterly brilliant, hardworking love @itsJason won a Pulitzer yesterday for EVERY LIVING THING. (Really good book, BTW. You don't need the @PulitzerPrizes to tell you to go get your copy now.) 🏆
Enjoyed doing this interview with @jonstewart@weeklyshowpod and @ezraklein on the social media fun-house mirror distortion machine.
A.I. will super-charge the harms of social media as it washes over society, unless we change the incentives from maximizing engagement.
Do you have a question for me or @tristanharris? Ask us and we’ll answer it on an upcoming episode of Your Undivided Attention. Just tape a voice memo on your phone and send it to [email protected]. Look forward to hearing your voices! @HumaneTech_
Immigration lawyer @_PMolnar went to borderlands around the world to see how governments were using novel #AI and #surveillance tech in the global refugee crisis. On #YourUndividedAttention, she talks with @tristanharris and @Aza about what she found. https://t.co/EerRn2WjRz
Oh NO. This is a huge deal. Such a disappointing move from @Stanford whose students and staff have been menaced by elected lawmakers and their henchmen. Unbelievable.

The AI safety movement seems to be reaching an inflection point. Glad to have produced this important episode of YOUR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION with @tristanharris@aza and whistleblower William Saunders. @HumaneTech_
Yesterday @aza and I were honored to interview William Saunders, who was part of the recent group of OpenAI whistleblowers who came forward. https://t.co/Z0Gx5EVdWT
William worked on safety issues at OpenAI but resigned because he saw the company consistently prioritize growth and market dominance over the safe roll out of AI.
He co-wrote the https://t.co/IlOB0krNSI letter and personally risks losing millions to warn us. The letter was also endorsed by Yoshua Bengio, Stuart Russell and Geoff Hinton. With the lack of meaningful regulation of AI currently, whistleblowers are one of the few ways society can have early warning to systems that pose risk. We need independent oversight of AI companies, and should explore ways of giving company insiders the right to warn us of the risks that only they can see.
If you're a professor doing course-planning for the fall—and you're teaching a unit on literature, AI, tech, poetry, etc etc—i'd be delighted if you considered DO YOU REMEMBER BEING BORN? all the cool teachers are doing it.

"In order to save life on this planet, we need to stop pretending we can understand it." Brilliant and refreshing talk by @itsJason last night @MrsDsBooks
