Sinem #Dedetaş, the young mayor of #Üsküdar, did not lose at the ballot box. She won. However, today she was detained as part of the latest so-called corruption investigation, which is part of an ongoing campaign against #Turkey’s democratic opposition. In today’s Turkey, supporting Ekrem #İmamoğlu and advocating for democratic change is enough to make you a target. Elected mayors are being removed from office one after another through politically motivated investigations. When those chosen by the electorate are treated as enemies, democracy itself is under attack. Europe cannot remain silent.

When a stand-up comedian is arrested in handcuffs as if he were a national security threat, the problem is not comedy. The problem is @RTErdogan ’s fear of free citizens.
