It actually started a few days ago, but was reminded of it today… stress is not from being run off our feet this time around. Between snowbanks, water runs, cold temps & and surprising dryness in fields - it’s going to be an interesting season yet. Only a handful have started.
An odd habit I have when under stress is my handwriting unconsciously switches to all capital letters. Not sure why, but I’ve done it for years.
Hello from someone starting week 3 of busy season.
Around 600 miles between Kamsack and Great Falls. But might as well be halfway across the world for the difference in season! Crazy! Any kind of seeding won’t start here for another week at minimum.

“There is no ribbon-cutting. No news conference.
Yet, in a matter of weeks, tens of thousands of Canadian farmers and ranchers deploy billions of dollars, put enormous personal and financial capital at risk, and set in motion the production of food that Canadians and much of the world depend on.”
4 years in, I’m still trying to find a balance of time spent at the farm, & time spent where I live & work 50 min away. Not sure there is such a thing. 4th wknd in a row of dealing with & cleaning up the aftermath of spring snowstorms while calving cows. Resilience is necessary.
From snow drifts to budding trees...
Big melt in the Prairies over the past few days!
Here's the difference between Saturday and Monday.
As of Tuesday noon, it is pretty much all gone.
Lot of new voices are talking about fertilizer markets given its current global attention.
Remember that the most important voice you need to listen to is YOUR LOCAL SUPPLIER.
This is not putting down anyone talking about the markets. Just please talk to your supplier.
“The elk population in MB sat at 605 in 2019, according to the latest survey done by the prov government.”
Typo or am I misreading this?
7 years post survey, we have 250+ in one herd NE of Roblin. A quieter winter so far but elk are one of the main issues at our farm today.
Thoughtful food production starts at every level—building regional scale and driving global impact.
Canada has the ambition and capacity; now we need collaboration and a bit of “defragging” to make it happen. 🇨🇦

To the farmer and rancher families who keep going when the numbers don't. You are more than a yield, a price, or a report. #cdnagday#agriculture
Today across the country we celebrate #CdnAgDay! 🇨🇦🚜🌾
To the farmers, ranchers, producers, agri-food workers and farm families who feed our nation every single day—thank you.
What makes this sector so remarkable is the spirit behind it. Resilience, innovation, and pride in a job well done.
Even in the face of challenges, Canada’s agriculture sector continues to lead, adapt, and deliver.
AAFC is closing seven research facilities:

There is significant misinformation being shared on social media regarding CFIA’s proposed traceability regulations. CCA worked with provincial associations and other industry associations to provide input to ensure the regulations follow the Cattle Implementation Plan which was led by the cattle industry.
No new regulations were implemented on January 1, 2026.
CCA will continue to work with provincial members and governments to ensure that any proposed changes work for producers. We are calling for a pause to address the concerns that we are hearing.
@CanadianCowMan For the past 7 years, I have come to Chilliwack at least twice a year to visit family who moved there from the prairies. I definitely agree that I would take a -25 day with blue skies over the constant grey gloom & rain in the winter there!
Our teams in Wadena, Whitewood, Canora & Kamsack were thrilled to join @aitcsk’s ‘Food Farm’ in Yorkton! 🌾 Local kids explored crops & learned how their food goes from farm to table. #AgInTheClassroom#FarmToTable
@kowalchukfarms1 The conversations regarding mental health that my dad & I have now is not something he would have thought of discussing with the previous generations. I also think it has him looking back retrospectively & help to understand his father & situations a bit better than at the time.
