We moved to a little homestead, so now after work, I spend another 4-6 hours working in the garden or with our harvested produce.
It’s tiring physically but so enriching mentally. Initial verdict? Remote work + homestead is the dream and worth it 🥹
Being a high performance person raises your internal stress significantly.
- Your expectations of yourself are high
- Others expectations of you are high
So important to have & use "release valves" - things that siphon off that internal pressure.
Build those in, daily.
@JordanGMassing1 I loved that my family would make trips exciting, no matter where we went. We had an annual summer Texas girls road-trip and I always looked forward to that, plus our Nebraska family reunion. Bringing my favorite cousins/friends outweighed the where
@JordanGMassing1 If you want to drive up to Port Angeles, you’re welcome to come stay! It’s about 3 hours but the best jumping off point to explore Olympic, whale watch, Lake Crescent, etc.
@MichelleBakels@samko_cx you are always welcome! though if we’re voting for in person episodes, one at an inter miami game has to be it 🐐
can’t wait to hear these episodes!
When considering a new role, the most important question isn't "can I do it?" It's "do I want it?"
It's up to the employer to decide whether you're qualified. Only you can gauge whether you're motivated.
Values should align with the job. Skills can be learned on the job.

@JordanGMassing1@pjozefak Also incredibly ableist. Lights give me migraines while in meetings. Even sitting in front of a window can trigger them, trying to use natural light. There are many reasons the chic remote work setup isn’t feasible for great employees.
@rleggos Miami and Savannah were both top of our list, but both hot & the latter isn’t going to be as bike friendly. Chapel Hill/Raleigh or Eugene for college towns. Eugene is a fantastic community, bike friendly and close to a lot of nature
@rleggos I’ve found the diversity, food and events better in Seattle than Portland. Denver feels like a more industrial Seattle, also has great food.
My partner & I spent months remote working in different cities to choose. Very helpful to spend 2+ weeks in areas
@hannaweeny I keep the toothbrush highly visible, but also mouthwash, which is better than nothing on low energy days. I put dental picks all over the house: desk, living room, bedside table, to help floss regularly when I’m doing other stuff. It’s not perfect - but it’s not nothing!
