A bowl of Raisin Bran has more sugar in it than a bowl of Froot Loops. 18 g against 12.

The Raisin Bran box reads whole grain wheat, raisins, wheat bran, sugar, brown sugar syrup, then under 2% of malt flavor and salt. A 1 cup serving is 59 g and 18 g of that is sugar. 9 g comes from the raisins and 9 g is added. Froot Loops is 39 g a serving with 12 g of sugar, all of it added.

Put them on the same scale and Raisin Bran is 30% sugar by weight, Froot Loops is 31% and Frosted Flakes is 32%. Cheerios is 5%.

I found this comparison quite interesting.

In June 2014, crude oil was trading at approximately $108 per barrel, with diesel averaging $3.92 (EIA) per gallon.

Fast forward to October 2026, and crude oil is again around $108 per barrel, yet diesel is averaging $6.28 (EIA) per gallon.

That’s approximately a 60% increase in diesel prices, despite virtually identical crude oil prices.

It really highlights how much more goes into fuel pricing than just the cost of crude oil. Global supply, refining capacity, inventories, and market dynamics all play a role.

With so many factors influencing fuel costs, I believe it’s more important than ever for businesses to look beyond just the price per gallon when evaluating their fuel operations.
