Every time I avoided the thing my body was screaming about, regret showed up instead of relief.
The call I didn't make. The room I didn't enter. The conversation I dodged.
Anxiety promised safety.
Regret delivered something worse.
Your thoughts are not the problem.
Your body is stuck in threat mode and your mind cannot override it.
Put cold water on your vagus nerve.
Use a breath pattern your biology recognizes.
Ground through proprioception.
Three resets that signal safety when words cannot.
The best drugs I took for my anxiety:
1. Protect my sleep
2. Exposure. Learning to sit in the feeling instead of running.
3. Food that didn't inflame my gut.
4. Breathwork that slowed the exhale.
Confused I never mentioned mindset?
If you're a man who:
Can't focus
Feels flat
Sleeps poorly
Wakes up tired
Run ferritin, B12, and vitamin D before you accept the anxiety diagnosis.
The problem might not be in your head. It might be in your blood.
The three resets that stop anxiety faster than talking yourself down:
1) Cold water on the vagus nerve
2) A breath pattern that signals safety
3) Proprioceptive grounding
Your mind cannot calm a body that thinks it is under attack. Talk to the body first.
Most people are dopamine-deficient for two reasons.
First: iron deficiency. Most common nutrient deficiency in the world.
Second: every notification, every scroll, every video spikes dopamine and drops the baseline lower.
'Labs before labels':
Ferritin below 30 mimics panic disorder.
Low B12 looks like depression.
Vitamin D deficiency kills your drive.
None of these show up on a depression screener. All of them show up on a $50 blood panel.
An inflamed gut steals from the brain.
The gut uses glutamine for repair. The same glutamine your brain needs to make GABA.
When your gut lining is damaged, it consumes glutamine to rebuild itself.
The brain's off-switch weakens. The overthinking gets louder.
The hardware is your gut. The software is your personality. The raw materials are your food.
If your gut can't produce serotonin, no amount of positive thinking will make you feel safe.
If your gut can't produce dopamine, no amount of goal-setting will make you motivated.
Roughly 90% of your body's serotonin is produced in your gut. Not your brain.
In the lining of your intestines. You can eat all the turkey in the world and still feel anxious.
The factory is broken. The gut is where good feelings are made.
No food. No screens. No YouTube. No Netflix. No scrolling.
I was fasting from dopamine entirely. When the fast ended, my dopamine baseline had reset.
The gym conversation didn't feel like a drain anymore. It felt like something I wanted to do.
Cholesterol has been demonized for decades.
But cholesterol is the precursor to oxytocin. The chemical that makes you trust people.
That lowers the fear of rejection. Eliminate cholesterol and you eliminate the raw material for trust.
The depression and anxiety epidemic is a metabolic crisis dressed up as a mental health crisis.
A serotonin production problem in the gut. Nobody talks about it because you can't patent tryptophan.
You can't put glutamine in a thirty-second commercial. The fix isn't a pill.
@matthewbaszucki We always crave what is familiar.
Psychologically and physiologically, that is why change is so hard.
But just because it feels bad/wrong, does not mean it is.
Same thing for anxiety in my opinion.
The further you go in life, the bigger your problems will get - that is just how it is.
Same goes for people with poor spending habits.
Same goes for people who say if I get x I´ll be happy.
People have it backwards. I always see it with anxiety.
You start and anxiety fades. Not the other way around.
