@matt_levine - with the SNB/UBS arrangement over CS, the shareholders are getting 82¢ a share, but $17B in bonds is getting wiped out. That seems unusual. Is it?
@SonnyRD@vulture@McHenryJD The irony here is that Apocalypse Now was filmed in the Philippines (as a sub for Vietnam, for obvious reasons), whereas Tár was filmed in Thailand as a sub for the Philippines (for unclear reasons, since the film doesn't seem to care where she is, beyond "Southeast Asia").
@matt_levine On the one hand, basis points avoids that ambiguity.
On the other hand, permyriad has a symbol (‱) and basis points just has “bp”, which is lame.
@matt_levine@mattyglesias One challenge with this (vs the coin) is that you have to start doing this well in advance of running into the debt ceiling, right?
One thing I’ve learned from a decade in the UK: if you are having a conversation about your “party wall”, you are probably not having a very good time.
It may be an upset for Belgium to get knocked out in the group stage, but it’s an even bigger upset for them to top the S&S top 100 list.
Jeanne Dielmann is a great film, but I would have never guessed it would make number 1. Go Belgium!!!
@137abst @github I'm guessing something is wrong with the caching layer. I wonder how widespread it is, or if it's specific to certain cache servers or something.
@github@githubstatus — I am getting a lot of 406s for various URLs. Example: https://t.co/ihUEXuKZrI
I can see the pages if I navigate to them, but if I refresh or go directly to the URL I get a 406. Same w/ incognito. Only certain URLs, but 100% repro on the ones that fail.
@ethanhein @ctford While we’re at it, can we retire “Western medicine”? It’s implicitly racist too. People use it to mean science-based medicine, which is global, and has been for a long time. _Western_ medicine is leeches and humours vs Ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, etc.
I’m assembling a playlist of songs from movies — I’d forgotten the degree to which so many films from 1985 to 2005 were basically just playlists with a bit of a plot.
