A brief thread on why Secession was unconstitutional in 1861. Don't bother litigating whether secession was "legal" - go right to the heart of the thing - the "nub", as Lincoln might have said.

The heart of the thing is sovereignty.

@NC_WASP @ajthelawyer @AccurateCaption @Unknownjr7 @FrostyASquared @Doucher6911 @Resistanceisthe 1/ Actually, secession is utterly unconstitutional.

Article VII of the Const and its ratifying conventions created a *sovereign* federal govt. This was the plan of the Founders (GWash, AHam, JMad, etc.) all along. They *wanted* a sov'n gov't based on popular sovereignty.

"Impacted" should only be used when discussing molars. "Affected" is a perfectly fine word.

What's the word/grammar hill you are absolutely dying on?

@JoshMalina Holy Shit! Good on ya!

This is a sweeping national embarrassment.

[ProPublica @propublica]

Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign.

The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers.

Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵

Reminder to those who apparently don't know: the Kennedy Center was financially robust, with many private donors, before this administration undermined it, chased out the National Symphony, Washington Opera and others. Trump has forced it into bankruptcy out of sheer vanity.

Motaz Azaiza was named one of TIME’s 100 most influential people for showing the world Gaza, and now he’s openly admitting that Gaza journalists like him would lower their cameras when Palestinians blamed Hamas.

When will the world realize they're being fed a narrative?

@TonyColdWine @dieworkwear I grew up there, and got priced out in 1988. But it is indeed beautiful.

I. How do we know that the Confederate States of America was explicitly founded to “strengthen perpetuate and extend” slavery? Because the men who causd their states to secede from the Union told us so, again and again, in a series of letters, declarations, and speeches.

[True Blue Federalist @JuneHog]

@e_joseph_murphy He's the worst of them -- a "silly bunt" as Monty Python's Mr. SmokeToMuch would say.
