Nguyen Sy Cuong, born in 1961 and a former member of the National Assembly, was driving a BMW X3 when the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a motorbike carrying a father and his 18-year-old daughter. The girl, born in 2007, was only 18 years old and was preparing for her high school graduation/university entrance examinations. She suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of her right leg, and died in hospital about a week after the crash. Her father was also seriously injured.
