@bloomfilters very true, and a big part of the problem is the people who identify with that often dont realize this and project it onto others in a very degendering and transmisogynistic way. i think these two tumblr posts describe the phenomenon quite accurately
As a native New Yorker it really irks me to see people going into the deli and looking at the menu. It's a quick way to out yourself as a transplant. Real New Yorkers just know what ingerdients delis have and order something without looking at the menu.
"Trans people pass for safety reasons" honestly I'm going to go even further. I like passing and want to pass because I am the gender I say I am and I like forgetting that I'm trans most of the time.
