Beyond some propaganda with limited reach, feminism is not, in fact, the second arm of imperialism. Habituating yourself into responding to any woman talking about her status under patriarchy with extreme resentment and skepticism is bad, actually
not to be mean and prideful all at once but sometimes i start to read dissertations (esp masters dissertations) on something i don't have a masters lvl education in and i'm like wow... i could have done such a better job. this doesn't happen so much w phd dissertations
@ohhevans the woman who wrote persepolis, marjane satrapi, died this week and many western so-called communists & anti-imperialist have been tearing her up and saying her work is imperialist propaganda. teen her wanting to wear a miniskirt and listen to punk is hedonistic & privileged
honestly i find it crazy for an american to act like wanting to listen to rock music is shallow. jazz, the blues, rock, r cultural exports we can actually be proud of. imo music is the most impactful form of art, thru its reach & the communal aspects (singing, concerts, dancing)
@ohhevans in the last trimester babies can recognize the difference between music & speech in the womb, and remember songs after birth like they remember voices!! i’ve read that some theorize song came before language, but if not they were developing at the same time
but of course, as generations before, when a young woman or girl cares about something or sees herself in something, no matter how universal to humanity it is, you're going to deride it. fucking ideologues
& overwhelmingly, black americans created these genres & white americans derided them. i love music, i think it's so powerful; if u have ur voice or can clap or stomp or hum u can make music. it's nearly impossible to take away. it predates modern humans. it is important!!!
