People don’t realise how important this opportunity is for Malaysia. Yes, Bahrain is funding the race but that’s not the big picture.
If Malaysians turn up in huge numbers and make it a success, it would prove there’s still strong demand for Formula 1 in Malaysia, paving the way for Sepang’s return to the calendar.
Hosting the Bahrain GP at Sepang could be the break Malaysia needs to re-establish itself in Formula 1.

BREAKING: Formula 1 has added Malaysia to its 2026 schedule as the host of the Bahrain Grand Prix that was postponed earlier in the season.

Malaysia is set to host the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang in October after the original race in Bahrain was postponed, according to ESPN sources.
Bahrain had hoped to reschedule the event for Oct 4th, but escalating regional tensions have made that plan impossible.
