The Prestige is the only good Nolan film because the conceit is so simple that it forces him to actually make characters that are human beings rather than plot devices. The rest are all just video game cutscenes.

This is a take. I disagree, but she's entitled to it.

However, this type of reaction speaks to a larger point (and it goes beyond The Odyssey): some cannot fathom when a story is an adaptation instead of a page-to-screen translation. A book and a film are their own mediums.

Watched it again - The Odyssey has perhaps the best final act of any Nolan movie. Tremendously entertaining and pretty emotional, but didn’t hit me the way Oppenheimer did.

His best looking film by far though. Ludwig’s score was alright, not Oppenheimer level either

Just realizing Jennifer Lame also did Hereditary, which is one of the scariest and most unsettling films I’ve ever seen. Her work in The Odyssey is pretty damn good too, especially the final act - second Oscar incoming methinks

Enjoyed how Nolan put his own spin on The Odyssey, made for a more engaging watch than just a standard retelling. The parallels with Oppenheimer were pretty intriguing for me and I felt like it landed pretty well - the narrative payoff in the last hour was sooooooo good

Matt Damon takes the cake for me though, a genuinely incredible performance in what was the role of a lifetime.

Watching him go full medieval Jason Bourne was particularly satisfying and utterly believable
