My name is Finn Lucas, and on January 19, 2025, I died in Kiel – at 13 years old, from a stab to the heart. My mother and I were ignored, the perpetrators were given legal counsel.

This is my story.

Since last year, I had been repeatedly humiliated and beaten by a well-known group of offenders. My mother filed complaints, but nothing happened.

On January 19, one of the boys from my residential group lured me into a trap. Seven people lay in wait, beat me up, and took my phone. Calling for help was impossible.

The blows were deliberate and brutal. Eventually, I lost consciousness. As I slowly came to and tried to get up, I was struck by a hard kick in the face. I lost my weak footing and collapsed unconscious again. I never felt the fatal stab to my heart. Nor did I hear the police arrive – called by my caretaker, who had not dared to come out and intervene.

The two patrol officers who arrived saved my life. They immediately began resuscitation until the arriving paramedics got my heart beating again. In the hospital, I underwent emergency surgery, and the doctors were astonished that I was still alive. A miracle, they said.

I now carry a severe trauma and must take medication because my heart still doesn’t want to beat properly. At 13 years old, my body and soul have been gravely damaged. Senseless violence against an innocent child has changed my life and that of my parents forever.

To this day, no one from the city of Kiel has reached out to us, offered help, or support. The perpetrators immediately received legal representation, and five of the seven were released from pre-trial detention after just three days. I myself live in fear and do not know how my life can go on. Everything is very hard for me right now.

My mother and father are left on their own, forced to take care of everything: finding a lawyer and a psychologist to help me deal with the trauma I suffered.

I ask myself: why are perpetrators protected, but not the victims?
