Me: "So, do you want a regular cheeseburger?"

Customer: "No. I want my burger to have bacon on it. But if it comes with bacon, then I don't want bacon."

(I have absolutely no idea what he is asking for, and all his friends seem to be as confused as I am.)

Me: "Okay, just to make sure I am understanding you correctly, I am going to repeat what you are asking for."

Customer: "Okay."

Me: "You want a bacon cheeseburger, and if there is bacon on it, you don't want the bacon."

Customer: "Right."

Me: "But you definitely want the bacon on the burger."

Customer: "Right."

(Now all his friends are laughing, and I have no idea what to say. Suddenly, the customer realizes what he's been saying.)

Customer: "PICKLES! Oh my God, I don't want PICKLES on the burger!"

Me: "Oh, thank God! I was starting to think I went crazy!"

there are many sad things about jules' character but I have to say that seeing her quitting art school for escorting is somehow one of the worst things. using all her creative force on pleasing disgusting deviant older men, showing what happens when all your life revolves around something linked to sex. creative and sexual forces are actually two sides of the same coin and unfortunately for jules, she chose the money (and the fake power she thinks she gets from) given by men to use her as a sex doll instead of pouring that energy into her art.

What is interesting is not where Maddy lives. A lot of people are broke at 24, even though that is more than enough time to get your life in order after high school. From 18 to 24, if you were a hustler like Maddy supposedly was, and she already worked in high school, you would expect more stability.

What is more interesting are the lies, and her need to appear bigger than she is. The meetup with Cassie is a good example. What does that tell us? That she might be ashamed of her life. The only way to truly understand whether Maddy should be in those living conditions is her age and what she has actually been doing up to this point. You can then understand if she is successful, living normally, or if her career potential has dropped. It is about her decisions and the jobs she applied for, not the people hiring her.

As much as we want to believe Maddy’s life is normal for her situation and the city she is living in, we need to be realistic and accept that she is not in a good place at all. At this point, it would take a miracle for her to get the life she actually dreams of. I think her staring at Cassie at the wedding reminded her of the life she wanted. She never really wanted to work, she only did it because she had to, especially in high school, since her father did not work and it was only her mother.

I like the book’s adaptation of Dorothy way way more. In there she literally begged for Elphaba’s forgiveness for taking her sister’s shoes and even said that she didn’t want to kill her like the Wizard commanded her to.

It was this kindness that Elphaba hadn’t experienced in so long that psychologically damaged her, as well as causing her to sympathize with Dorothy as they are both misunderstood outsiders.

She tossed water on her to save Elphaba when she was engulfed in flame, unaware of the myth that water kills her.

I think just reducing her into a spoiled brat who has no problem straight up murdering Elphaba and feels good doing it is not only uninspired but unreasonably cruel.
