watching people complain about Tyla featuring South African artists on her album is honestly confusing. You wanted her to win globally but donโt want her to bring her own culture with her? Make it make sense
Viola Davis reveals Juilliard trained her by putting a pencil in her mouth to check her tongue position
"No one wants to see a play or a movie and look at technical proficiency. You wanna be moved. You want a human experience, you wanna feel less alone. They don't get at that"
"They get at, literally, when you are rehearsing at Juilliard, they have a teacher with a pencil who follows you through the rehearsal and puts the pencil in your mouth to see where your tongue is and where it's positioned when you articulate"
"Or there's a person following you throughout rehearsal, holding your ribcage to see if you're breathing properly through your diaphragm"
"And so when it gets like that and you leave yourself and your soul behind, you're not an artist"
"And can I just say, on top of that, it's Eurocentric training. So when you're studying all of those classics, there's a clear idea of what all of those characters look like. And that's not me"
"So then what am I supposed to do with my Blackness? What am I supposed to do with my deep voice and my wide nose?"
I once saw a hot hairy muscle gay on here who was so obsessed with being a bottom and identified with it so much that he very much so got bottom surgery without transitioning and it is one of the most psychologically charged and insane concepts I have ever encountered
remember, this was about โliberating the people of venezuelaโ just like bombing iran is about toโliberating the people of iranโ - this is naked plunder. this is imperialism.
No shade... I might get dragged for this but ๐
I genuinely think Doechii and Doja Cat deserve more respect in the game because IMO they're clearing Nicki in the talent department. Granted, both are clearly inspired by Nicki, but that's what makes it so interesting. They took elements of what Nicki brought to the game and evolved them into something that feels even more dynamic as performers and artists today.
Before the Barbz start foaming at the mouth, hear me out...
Every time I ask what makes Nicki the most talented female rapper ever, the answers are always the same:
Her pen,
Her bars,
Her longevity,
Her stats,
Okay. We get it.
Now remove the writing for a second.
What exactly does Nicki do better than Doechii or Doja TODAY?
Because from where I'm sitting, Doechii and Doja can OUTperform, OUTdance, OUTcreate, OUTconceptualize, and arguably OUTrap NICKI.
So what's the argument beyond legacy, influence, and sales?
I'm tryna see sum. ๐...
