It's a start. We need a secular state education. All children deserve equality throughout the Schools day #justeducate but thanks @SocDems https://t.co/8kIj1IIILv
It is 2019 and as a student teacher, I am sitting through one of six Catholic Theology lectures which I have to attend to qualify as a primary school teacher. Not one of these days refers to any other religion except Catholicism. #ireland#primaryteacher#education#religion
@edu_equal@LunchtimeLiveNT@ciarakellydoc Ciara I have heard of children in ET schools having it said to them that 'you don't believe in God you're going to hell' nevermind opted out children in catholic schools
It's wrong to have religious instruction in schools
We must #separatechurchandstate
We do not need religion replaced by anything, look at the most progressive countries in the world & they all have secular education
@ciarakellydoc
A Religious Education book for the State RE course which is an exam subject.
Non religious parents are told that this State RE course is inclusive and respects their philosophical convictions
Church say that it is not acceptable to make the State Religious education course optional in ETB (state schools). That has always been their position & the ETBs just went along with it.
Making RE compulsory and/or a core subject was never the policy of Dept of Ed or the NCCA.
This is a great idea
As long as we allow a single child to be excluded or discriminated against because of their parents religion we will never be an equal society
Time to #justeducate https://t.co/LjcupK3ltx
