@treanor_claire@simonmlewis It’s a state service and should cater for all children, not just those of particular religions. We don’t have hospitals specifically for those of a particular faith and nor should we have taxpayer-funded schools set up on those lines. Religion classes could still be opted into.
@finbarmcd@simonmlewis@ConorJCallaghan An alternative word would be segregation - which is what we do in our education system. Non Catholic children are literally segregated from their peers on a daily basis in state-funded education. Whatever you call it, the practice is hard to defend 🤷🏻♀️
I have no words.
Actually I have many words. I'll share them when I calm down.
I know in the future people will look back on this in the same way we look back at the 1960s when a number of politicians defended corporal punishment in schools.

Listen back to today’s Newstalk Breakfast, where @David0Graham from Education Equality argued that while children should learn about religion at school, it must not be presented as fact, as per the status quo, where teachers are expected to indoctrinate. #edchatie#equalrespect
Good to see this topic being discussed as many parents are not aware of their right to withdraw their child from religious indoctrination in schools. The Dept of Education needs to stop deflecting and take responsibility for how state-funded schools behave in this area #edchatie
A Dublin school has said it will review aspects of its ethos statement following a message circulated to parents noting all pupils are required to attend religious ceremonies.

A few photos and videos from Tuesday evening's launch of "Classroom Hero" by @David0Graham. Special thanks to Chris Joyce, Aoife McMenamin, Simon Lewis and a 'little hero' for an extraordinary night.
For whatever reason there are a number of journalists writing about letting their kids "make their Communion" even though they don't believe in a god. They probably don't see how this might influence others to do the same. Here's my response:

If you have a child opted out in your class, or if you don't have a child opted out in your class, I'd recommend attending this launch and getting your hands on this excellent book
