I'm a linguist, not a lawyer, so I've no idea what the courts will make of the merits of this pre-trial application. But if it fails, and the matter goes to a full hearing, the case will certainly be one to watch. And Senator Craughwell will have done the public some service.

Interesting submissions in the pre-trial motion against the proceedings being brought by Senator @GCraughwell to examine the lawfulness & constitutionality of alleged 🇮🇪/🇬🇧 defence arrangements. The State has raised two key arguments in its defence.

This is only about saving face. No credible case can be made that the examination by a court of an alleged defence agreement, the broad scope of which is already public knowledge, presents any such threat. The State cannot expect the courts to take such a claim at face value.
