“Oh, Marilla, I wouldn’t go through the Haunted Wood after dark now for anything. I’d be sure that white things would reach out from behind the trees and grab me.”

👻 “Mother, we’ve got the loveliest home in the world…Only don’t you think it would improve it if we had a few ghosts?”…
”nobody but happy people have ever lived here, so you see we’re not ghostable. Now say your prayers and go to sleep.”
ANNE OF INGLESIDE

October--with a gorgeous pageant of colour…A great, tinted peace. Blue, wind-winnowed skies. Sunlight sleeping in the glades…Long dreamy purple days paddling idly in their canoe along shores & up the rivers of crimson and gold

#OCTOBER was a beautiful month at Green Gables, when the birches in the hollow turned as golden as sunshine and the maples behind the orchard were royal crimson … while the fields sunned themselves in aftermaths. Anne reveled in the world of colour about her.

I pretend I don’t care and you pretend you don’t notice but it’s there, the feeling. It sits between us like a slow-burning fire, threatening to consume us both. I reach for you, fingers over the heat, and you look at me like you’d burn for this. For me.
Didn’t mean to always gravitate towards you, to orbit you, to linger. To find reasons, silly ones, to be near, to touch you. Unfortunately, gravity has less of a hold on me than you do.
When I think of our future it’s not the big, flashy moments I imagine. It’s grocery shopping with you pushing the cart behind me. It’s lying on the couch with your head on my lap or washing dishes and passing them to you to dry. It’s the boring, beautiful slices of life.
You whisper, ‘You deserve better than this, than me,’ and my heart rips but the sound is too quiet for you to hear.
Then anger fills the silence and it sounds like me filling my lungs with air and saying, ‘But you’re what I want. Don’t I deserve to get what I want?’
@chaos_in_calm I watched it a couple weeks ago and I liked it a lot more than I expected. I couldn't stop watching because I had to know what happened next!
“How the home lights shine out tonight through the dark!” said Anne. “I hate to come home to a dark house. Gilbert! Isn’t it lovely to see?”
“Just one of earth’s many millions of homes, Anne, but ours-our beacon in ‘a naughty world.’”

ANNE’S HOUSE OF DREAMS
“Holmes speaks of grief ‘staining backward’ through the pages of life; but Valancy found her happiness had stained backward likewise and flooded with rose-colour her whole previous drab existence. She found it hard to believe that she had ever been lonely and unhappy and afraid.”
