A little piece of Venetian magic. This ornate glass goblet, with its twisting serpent stem and gilded wings, feels like something straight out of an old-world fairytale.

[Furrend @hifurrend]

In the 1950s, a cat named Dagwood from Portland, Oregon, became a little ping-pong star. It started because she wouldn't leave her owner alone while he played, so he gave her the other side of the table.

A 400-year-old mystery in metal where science meets the magic of the stars.

My son really graduated from paper airplanes to Styrofoam dragons 😭

[The Figen @TheFigen_]

This is how male antelopes walk during mating season to attract females.
That walk is impossible to resist.
I’m impressed! 😄

TYPE YOUR CITY INTO THIS GLOBE. IT SPINS THE EARTH BACK 750 MILLION YEARS AND SHOWS YOU WHERE YOUR HOME USED TO BE.

it's called Ancient Earth →

I typed in Karachi. the globe turned on its own, dropped a marker, and left my city sitting in the middle of Pangea, 240 million years ago, nowhere near Asia.

then it told me which fossils have been dug up near me. Titanosaurus. Simolestes.

there are 26 stops between now and 750 million years ago, and you can jump straight to the moment something started.

first shells, 540 million.
first plants on land, 430 million.
first dinosaurs, 220 million.
first flowers, 120 million.
the asteroid, 66 million.
first grass, 35 million.

flowers are younger than dinosaurs. on this timeline grass is younger than the asteroid. a lawn is a recent invention.

and it isn't an artist's impression. the continent positions come from Christopher Scotese's PALEOMAP Project, and the site places your location to within about 100 km.

one engineer built it, Ian Webster, on top of published tectonic models. it has been sitting there for free since 2015.

open a tab.
type where you live.
watch it drift away from you.

Archaeologists in England discovered an assemblage of Iron Age jewelry—perhaps the finest of prehistoric Europe. Ancient Britons had fashioned bracelets, rings, and magnificent torcs. They buried them, then stopped making them entirely. But why?

Star Fox Event Horizon is a massive fan project that began development in 2014 and is still being developed to this day. Did you know it was developed by just 1 person?

[GenerationAmiga @AmigamagazineGA]

The original Star Fox is back on PC. A new native port adds 60 FPS, widescreen, ultrawide, modern controls and Steam Deck support, while keeping the 1993 SNES game intact. Nintendo’s polygonal classic has never looked this smooth. #StarFox #Snes #RetroGaming https://t.co/ecAfAsRLth
